Thu Nov 21 10:08:29 UTC 2024: ## Kanguva’s Box Office Tumble: Pan-India Film Fails to Meet Expectations

**CHENNAI, INDIA –** The highly anticipated pan-India Tamil fantasy action film, *Kanguva*, starring Suriya, has experienced a significant drop in box office revenue after a promising opening. Despite a strong debut of ₹24 crore (approximately $2.9 million USD), the film’s daily collections have plummeted, raising concerns about its overall performance.

After a 60.42% drop on its second day, *Kanguva* has struggled to regain momentum. Its seven-day total stands at ₹62.40 crore (approximately $7.6 million USD), falling far short of its ₹350 crore (approximately $42.5 million USD) budget. Occupancy rates have also been low, registering 13.72% for Tamil shows and 6.97% for Hindi shows. Whether the film can reach the ₹100 crore mark remains uncertain.

The film’s underperformance has prompted the Tamil Nadu Producers Council (TNPC) to intervene. They’ve requested theatre owners to ban fan interviews conducted by YouTube channels on theatre premises after the first day first shows (FDFS) and eliminate FDFS reviews altogether. The TNPC cited *Kanguva*, along with *Vettaiyan* and *Indian 2*, as films negatively impacted by immediate online reviews, emphasizing that while journalistic reviews are acceptable, personal attacks and attempts to discredit entire films are unacceptable.

Directed by Siva, *Kanguva* features a star-studded cast including Suriya, Bobby Deol, Disha Patani, and Karthi in a dual cameo. The film’s narrative spans two timelines, weaving together a tribal warrior’s ancient struggle and a modern-day bounty hunter’s mission. However, despite the impressive cast and premise, the film’s box office performance suggests that it has failed to resonate with audiences as widely as anticipated.
