Thu Nov 21 06:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Instagram Rolls Out “Reset” Tool to Curb Algorithmic Content for Teens

**MUMBAI, INDIA – November 21, 2024** – Instagram announced today it is testing a new “Reset” tool designed to give users more control over their recommended content. The feature, aimed at creating a safer online environment for teenagers, allows users to quickly reset their algorithm’s personalized recommendations with a few taps. While the exact release date remains unspecified, Instagram stated the tool will be available globally “soon.”

Users can access the “reset suggested content” option within the “content preferences” tab. This will refresh their feed, allowing them to unfollow frequently suggested accounts. Although the feed will eventually personalize again, the feature offers a temporary reprieve from unwanted or potentially harmful content.

This move follows Instagram’s September rollout of enhanced parental controls, restricted messaging, and the promotion of private accounts for teens. The company emphasized its commitment to creating “safe, positive, age-appropriate experiences” for all users, particularly teenagers. The introduction of the “Reset” tool comes amid increasing pressure to improve online safety, particularly in light of the impending Online Safety Act and past criticism regarding online harassment contributing to teen suicides. TikTok already offers a similar feature.
