Thu Nov 21 04:40:00 UTC 2024: ## UNLV Crushes Pepperdine in Dominant Victory

**Las Vegas, NV –** The UNLV Runnin’ Rebels secured a resounding 80-59 victory over Pepperdine on Wednesday night at the Thomas & Mack Center, improving their season record to 3-1. Despite facing significant injury issues, UNLV showcased a dominant performance, fueled by aggressive defense that forced 16 Pepperdine turnovers.

The Rebels’ lead ballooned to as many as 38 points in the second half, showcasing their superior strength. The absence of starting wing Jaden Henley (foot injury) was more than compensated for by Julian Rishwain’s 12 points (in his first start) and Brooklyn Hicks’ career-high 16 points. D.J. Thomas also contributed significantly with 13 points and 6 assists, while maintaining a clean turnover record. Other key performers included Jeremiah “Bear” Cherry and Pape N’Diaye, who added a memorable 3-pointer to the team’s impressive display.

UNLV’s defensive prowess was evident throughout the game, limiting Pepperdine to a mere 28% shooting from the field in the first half alone. This defensive dominance, combined with the team’s efficient offense, allowed the Rebels to build a commanding 46-17 lead at halftime.

Coach Kevin Kruger praised his team’s response to the injury crisis, highlighting the adaptability of players like Thomas who stepped up to handle increased responsibilities. The Rebels face their next challenge this Saturday against New Mexico State, also at the Thomas & Mack Center.
