Wed Nov 20 20:20:00 UTC 2024: ## NCAA Investigates Central Michigan Coach Over Michigan Sign-Stealing Scandal Figure

**Mount Pleasant, MI –** Central Michigan University head football coach Jim McElwain is under NCAA investigation for his alleged involvement in allowing Connor Stalions, the architect of Michigan’s sign-stealing scandal, onto the Chippewas’ sideline during their 2023 season opener against Michigan State. This investigation is separate from the ongoing NCAA inquiry into the University of Michigan itself.

According to reports from CBS Sports and The Athletic, the NCAA is examining whether McElwain knowingly allowed Stalions’ presence, despite McElwain’s previous claim of ignorance. New photographic evidence obtained by The Athletic further fuels the investigation. If the NCAA finds McElwain facilitated Stalions’ presence, he could face significant sanctions. Stalions’ presence would also constitute a violation of NCAA Bylaw 11.6.1, prohibiting off-campus, in-person scouting during the same season.

The Michigan Wolverines are also facing their own NCAA investigation regarding the sign-stealing scheme orchestrated by Stalions. They received a Notice of Allegations on August 25th and are nearing the 90-day deadline to respond. Extensions may be possible. The ongoing investigations highlight the far-reaching consequences of Michigan’s sign-stealing scandal.
