**Visakhapatnam, November 21, 2024** – The Bhogapuram International Airport in Vizianagaram district is on track for completion by June 2026, according to GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited (GMRVIAL) CEO Manomay Rai. Rai, speaking at a recent Vizagapatam Chamber of Commerce & Industry (VCCI) event, stated the airport will be equipped to handle large wide-bodied aircraft.
Rai highlighted the significant economic benefits airports bring, impacting sectors from fuel supply and logistics to tourism and real estate. He emphasized the growing importance of sustainability and digitalization in the aviation industry, citing initiatives such as rainwater harvesting, solar power, and the adoption of technologies like DigiYatra. Future trends, he noted, include the use of drones, electric and hydrogen-powered aircraft, and increased reliance on AI and the Internet of Things.
The VCCI event also featured presentations on other key developments in the region. Hindustan Shipyard Limited CMD Commodore Hemant Khatri announced plans to become a shipbuilding hub by 2047, focusing on commercial shipbuilding and green vessels. Meanwhile, AP MedTech Zone (AMTZ) MD & founder CEO Jitendra Sharma highlighted the zone’s contribution to critical medical supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic and its efforts to replace costly imports with domestically produced medical devices.
