NEW DELHI (November 15, 2024) – Three-time MLA Veer Singh Dhangar has defected from the Congress party to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi, further weakening the Congress ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
The switch was announced at an AAP press conference by AAP national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who welcomed Dhangar into the party. Kejriwal stated that Dhangar’s addition strengthens the AAP and that people vote for AAP based on its performance. He further claimed that the AAP’s good work attracts individuals from other parties, highlighting previous defections from the BJP.
Dhangar, who represented the Seemapuri constituency, cited the Congress party’s inability to effectively serve the people of Delhi, particularly Dalits and backward classes, as his reason for leaving. He expressed his belief that the AAP, under Kejriwal’s leadership, is genuinely committed to working for the welfare of these communities.
