Wed Nov 20 14:42:17 UTC 2024: ## Tiruchi to Rebuild Beerangi Kulam Urban Primary Health Centre for ₹1.5 Crore

**Tiruchirappalli, November 20, 2024** – The Tiruchi City Corporation has announced plans to rebuild the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) at Beerangi Kulam at a cost of ₹1.5 crore. The existing UPHC, originally a 1950s maternity ward, serves approximately 48,000 residents across several neighbourhoods. The facility currently handles 200 outpatients, 60 pregnant women, and 10 deliveries daily.

The new UPHC will boast a fully furnished 10-bed maternity ward, an accident and emergency ward, a medical laboratory, and storage for vaccines and medicines. It will also incorporate ‘Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam’ (government’s healthcare outreach program) facilities, adolescent counselling, reproductive healthcare services, and general healthcare for men.

City Health Officer M. Vijay Chandran further revealed plans for a future community health centre with an operating theatre and maternity ward at the same location, to be constructed after the completion of the new UPHC. Mayor M. Anbuazhagan recently inspected the existing facility.
