**WASHINGTON** – Social media is again abuzz with false claims that taxpayers in certain states will receive $2,000 or more in government stimulus checks. This recurring rumor, fueled recently by Donald Trump’s re-election, is untrue, according to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
The IRS website confirms that no new stimulus payments are planned. While three rounds of payments were issued during the COVID-19 pandemic, the last was distributed almost three years ago. The IRS’s Get My Payment application is no longer functional.
Individuals who haven’t received previous stimulus payments can still claim them through the Recovery Rebate Credit on their tax returns. The deadline for claiming the 2020 credit has passed, but the deadline for the 2021 credit is April 15, 2025. For more details, visit the IRS website.
