Wed Nov 20 10:55:18 UTC 2024: ## Government Denies Raising Retirement Age for Central Employees to 62

**New Delhi, November 20, 2024** – A recent social media surge of posts claiming the Indian government raised the retirement age for central government employees to 62 has been debunked as false. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has officially denied the claim, stating that no such decision has been made.

Multiple fact-checking organizations, including Factly and NDTV, have independently verified the PIB’s statement. Their investigations revealed no credible reporting to support the claim. Furthermore, Union Minister Jitendra Singh confirmed in August 2023 that no proposal to change the retirement age was under consideration. A review of recent Union Cabinet meeting minutes also failed to find any discussion on this matter.

While the 5th Central Pay Commission previously recommended raising the retirement age to 60 (with exceptions for medical and scientific specialists up to 62), the 7th Central Pay Commission made no recommendations regarding retirement age increases. A separate decision in 2017 raised the retirement age for certain doctors to 65.

The PIB’s clarification underscores the importance of verifying information before sharing it online. The current retirement age for most central government employees remains unchanged.
