Wed Nov 20 01:16:37 UTC 2024: ## Delhi University Expels Student for Six Months Over Anti-NTA Slogans

**New Delhi, November 20, 2024** – Delhi University (DU) has expelled a postgraduate student for six months for writing anti-National Testing Agency (NTA) slogans on campus walls. The university cited the student’s unapologetic attitude following an inquiry into the incident, which occurred on July 31st during protests against alleged irregularities in the NEET-UC medical entrance exam.

The MA Russian language student, a member of the Disha Students’ Organisation, maintains her innocence. Initially suspended for two months, the expulsion was announced in a November 18th letter from the DU Registrar. The letter stated that the inquiry found the student admitted to the act, describing it as part of a group strategy. The university deemed her lack of remorse grounds for expulsion, barring her from classes, exams, and all university activities for six months.

The Disha Students’ Organisation has protested the decision, demanding the expulsion be revoked. The student, who claims she previously approached the Delhi High Court regarding her suspension but faced delays, alleges the university’s actions are selectively targeting dissent and suppressing freedom of expression. She points to the High Court’s leniency towards students involved in defacement during recent Delhi University Students’ Union elections, where results are pending until damages are paid. The election results are now expected on November 21st.
