TIRUCHI, November 19, 2024 – The Tamil Nadu State government has approved a ₹50 crore budget for comprehensive road improvements in Perambalur district during the 2024-2025 fiscal year. The projects, undertaken by the Perambalur Highways Division’s Construction and Maintenance Wing under the Comprehensive Road Infrastructure Development Programme (CRIDP), will include road widening and strengthening, general improvements, and the conversion of three causeways into high-level bridges.

A significant portion of the funding, ₹7.92 crore, will be allocated to the construction of high-level bridges replacing causeways along Pimbalur-Vannarampondy Road, Poolambadi-Veppadipalakadu Road, and Sengunam-Murukkangudi-Mangalamedu Road. This initiative aims to alleviate flooding issues and ensure smooth traffic flow during monsoon season.

Further improvements include road widening and strengthening projects spanning approximately 19.2 km at a cost of ₹33.8 crore, and general road improvements across 18 km costing ₹4.96 crore. Junction improvements along Ayyalur-Kudikadu-Sathanur Road to Varagupadi Road and Ranjangudi-V. Kalathur-Kaikalathur Road will receive ₹3.24 crore in funding.

The Highways Department plans to commence work on these projects shortly.
