**Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu – November 20, 2024** – The Chairman and members of the 16th Finance Commission conducted an inspection of various developmental projects in Ramanathapuram today. Led by Chairman Arvind Panagariya, the team, which included members Annie George Mathew and Manoj Panda, reviewed progress on several key initiatives.
The inspection included an assessment of homes built under the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme in Peikarumbu, Thangachimadam panchayat. Chairman Panagariya engaged with beneficiaries to understand the scheme’s impact. Further, the Commission examined projects completed and underway using funds from the 15th Finance Commission.
A significant portion of the inspection focused on the ₹20 crore new bus stand currently under construction in Ramanathapuram. Commission members sought detailed information from officials, headed by Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon, regarding the planned infrastructure. The team also reviewed the progress of the drinking water scheme implemented under the AMRUT and Jal Jeevan Mission in Ramanathapuram town.
Other officials present included Special Officer Brajendra Navnit, Finance Secretary S. Nagarajan, Director of Rural Development P. Ponnaiah, and Director of Municipal Administration S. Sivaraj.
