**Kochi, Kerala:** Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has hailed the upcoming match between Argentina’s national football team and Kerala as a testament to the state’s passionate love for the sport. In a Facebook post, Vijayan attributed the achievement, once considered impossible by many, to the state government’s persistent efforts.
The Argentinian Football Association has been supportive of the idea from the start. The Chief Minister expects an official announcement within a month and a half, confirming the visit of the team, including Lionel Messi. He believes this match will significantly raise Kerala’s profile on the global sporting stage, revitalizing the state’s sports culture and sector.
Sports Minister V. Abdurahman previously confirmed the match, scheduled for next year. The official announcement will be made by the Argentinian Football Association (AFA). The Minister also stated that the AFA has approved Kerala as the venue and that the game will be held under the full supervision of the state government.
To handle the substantial financial commitment involved, discussions have been held with the Kerala Gold and Silver Merchants Association and the State Traders and Industrialists Committee, who have pledged their support for hosting the match.
