Tue Nov 19 16:28:49 UTC 2024: ## UP By-Elections: Over 16,000 Personnel Deployed for Smooth Voting on Nine Seats

**Lucknow, November 19, 2024** – Uttar Pradesh is gearing up for by-elections in nine assembly constituencies on November 20th. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has finalized arrangements across 3,718 polling booths and 1,917 polling stations. A total of 16,318 polling personnel will be on duty to ensure a fair and transparent election process.

The nine constituencies – Meerapur, Kundarki, Ghaziabad, Khair (CC), Karhal, Sisamau, Phulpur, Katehari, and Majhawan – will see 90 candidates, including 11 women, vying for victory. To maintain transparency and order, the ECI has deployed 9 general observers, 5 police observers, and 9 expenditure observers. Furthermore, 350 sector magistrates, 56 zonal magistrates, and 60 static magistrates will be present, along with 745 micro-observers.

Technological measures are also in place, with 5,151 EVMs, 5,171 ballot units, and 5,524 VVPATs being utilized. Live webcasting will be conducted at 1,994 polling stations, and videography at 434 locations. 843 heavy vehicles and 762 light vehicles are deployed for logistical support. A significant number of paramilitary forces are also deployed to ensure peaceful conduct of elections and secure strong rooms.

Polling will take place from 7 AM to 5 PM. Voters reaching the polling booths by 5 PM will be allowed to cast their votes. Wheelchairs and volunteers will be available to assist voters. Besides voter ID cards, 12 other identity documents approved by the ECI will be accepted. The ECI has set up 74 model polling stations, 10 all-women managed polling stations, 7 all-youth personnel polling stations, and 6 all-disabled managed polling stations.
