**Nagpur, November 19, 2024** – Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Ambadas Danve, today accused the ruling Shiv Sena and BJP of engaging in vote buying in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar ahead of the November 20th state assembly elections. Danve claimed that party workers were offering sums of ₹1,000-₹2,000 to residents in exchange for their voter IDs and finger-inking them.
Addressing a press conference in Nagpur, Danve alleged that police inaction and complicity were aiding the ruling party’s candidate, Sanjay Shirsat, in his contest against Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Raju Shinde in the Aurangabad West constituency. He stated that despite complaints filed by Shiv Sena (UBT) workers, the authorities have not acted decisively, suggesting a bias towards the ruling party. Danve further claimed that the Election Commission imposed an unreasonably short deadline for responding to his earlier complaint.
While police reported two arrests on Monday night related to a similar cash-for-voter-ID incident involving a ₹1,000 payment, Danve maintains that the scale of the alleged vote-buying operation is far greater. The accusations have heightened tensions in the closely contested Aurangabad West seat as the election draws near.
