Tue Nov 19 13:07:44 UTC 2024: ## BJP Leader Accused of Distributing Cash Ahead of Maharashtra Elections

**VIRAR, MAHARASHTRA –** A major controversy erupted on the eve of the Maharashtra Assembly elections as BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde was accused of distributing ₹5 crore in cash to party workers. The allegations were made by the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA), who released a video purportedly showing Mr. Tawde distributing money at a Virar hotel.

BVA leader Hitendra Thakur claimed his party had prior information and confronted Mr. Tawde, leading to a tense standoff between BJP and BVA supporters. The BVA seized a diary allegedly containing records of the transaction. While Mr. Tawde denies the allegations, stating he was attending a meeting, the BVA is demanding legal action, threatening to continue detaining him until action is taken.

Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole has called for the Election Commission to take swift and impartial action against Mr. Tawde and the BJP, accusing them of attempting to influence voters through bribery. Mr. Patole alleges that the BJP, fearing defeat, is resorting to unethical practices. The incident occurred at the Vivanta Hotel in Virar, and reports of the alleged cash distribution have been widely covered by the media. The Election Commission is yet to respond to these serious allegations.
