**Hyderabad, November 19, 2024:** The Joint Admission Board (JAB) has reversed its earlier decision to allow three attempts for the JEE Advanced exam, the entrance test for prestigious NITs across India. Initially, the IIT Kanpur, responsible for conducting the exam, announced on November 5th that candidates could take the exam thrice. However, the JAB retracted this announcement on November 15th, reverting to the previous rule of allowing only two attempts – one in the year of intermediate examination and one in the following year.
This sudden reversal, just fifteen days after the initial announcement, has sparked widespread discussion. The JAB also rescinded its earlier relaxation of eligibility criteria for SC, ST, and PwD candidates, reinstating the original rule that only candidates born on or after October 1, 2000, are eligible for JEE Advanced 2025. The five-year relaxation previously granted to reserved categories has been withdrawn. Candidates must have passed their intermediate or equivalent examination in March 2024 or March 2025 to be eligible for the May 2025 JEE Advanced exam.
Meanwhile, the application process for JEE Main 2025 Session 1 is ongoing until November 22nd. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has provided a correction window for applicants to rectify errors in their applications from November 26th to 27th (until 11:50 PM). A fee will be charged for corrections, and only one correction attempt per candidate is permitted.
