**Mumbai, India – November 19, 2024** – The Indian stock market (BSE and NSE) will be closed on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024, due to the Maharashtra Assembly Elections. This is in addition to previously scheduled holidays for Laxmi Pooja (November 1st) and Guru Nanak Jayanti (November 15th). All banks in Maharashtra will also be closed, though digital banking services will remain operational.
The closure was announced by the BSE and NSE following the election date announcement. Investors are advised to check the official BSE website (bseindia.com) for a complete list of trading holidays. The next stock market holiday is Christmas Day, December 25th.
Liquor shops across Maharashtra will also be closed on November 20th to maintain public order during the elections. The state government has declared November 20th a public holiday to facilitate voting. Results of the Maharashtra Assembly Elections are expected on November 23rd.
