**Kanpur, India – November 13, 2024** – The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) has launched an international training program focused on utilizing drones in agriculture. The two-week program, titled “Agriculture Practice Using Drones: Plan, Design, Build, and Fly,” runs from November 13th to 23rd and is a collaboration with the African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO).
Thirteen participants from across Africa and Asia are receiving comprehensive training covering all aspects of agricultural drone technology. The curriculum includes precision crop monitoring, soil health assessment, pest control, and smart irrigation techniques. Hands-on sessions will provide practical experience in flight path planning, aerial mapping, sensor integration, and the application of drones in remote sensing and automated irrigation systems.
The program coordinators, Professor J Ramkumar (Department of Mechanical Engineering and Design) and Dr. Amandeep Singh Oberoi (SREO Imagineering Laboratory), are leveraging their expertise in micro/nano machining, additive manufacturing, and sustainable engineering to deliver the intensive eight-day training. Participants will learn to design, build, and fly drones specifically for agricultural applications, equipping them with skills to improve farming practices in their respective regions.
The initiative aims to empower participants to adopt sustainable and efficient farming methods through the innovative application of drone technology. IIT Kanpur and AARDO hope this program will significantly contribute to agricultural advancement in participating countries.
