Tue Nov 19 05:00:17 UTC 2024: ## Jaishankar and Wang Yi Discuss India-China Relations at G20 Summit

**Rio de Janeiro, Brazil –** Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro on November 19th. The meeting, the first formal bilateral meeting between the two countries’ foreign ministers in five years, follows a recent agreement between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping to resolve the military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Both ministers affirmed their commitment to implementing the consensus reached by Modi and Xi in Kazan last month. While China has called for the resumption of direct flights, visas, and journalist exchanges, India continues to express reservations due to the ongoing border dispute.

Following the meeting, Mr. Jaishankar stated that they “noted the progress in the recent disengagement in the India-China border areas” and exchanged views on future steps in bilateral relations. The discussion also encompassed the broader global situation. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the commitment to implementing the Kazan agreement. The meeting signals a cautious step forward in the complex relationship between the two nations.
