Tue Nov 19 11:35:25 UTC 2024: ## Andhra Pradesh CPI(M) Condemns Proposed Electricity Surcharges

**Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh –** The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) in Anantapur district has vehemently opposed the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (APERC) proposed true-up charges for 2023-24, totaling ₹11,820 crore. The party held a meeting on Tuesday to voice its concerns and submitted a memorandum to the relevant authorities.

The proposed charges, which could add 50 paise to ₹2.50 per unit to consumer bills, follow an earlier ₹6,072 crore burden levied in October. CPI(M) district secretary V. Rambhupal criticized the proposals, claiming they violate pre-election promises made by the ruling coalition regarding electricity costs. The party highlighted the hypocrisy of the NDA government, which previously opposed smart meters now seemingly embracing similar policies.

The CPI(M) alleges that the BJP-led central government is neglecting marginalized areas while its state coalition partner fosters communal division. The party’s district mahasabha, scheduled for December 23-24, will further evaluate the party’s work and set future objectives. The party is calling for the immediate withdrawal of the proposed surcharges.
