Tue Nov 19 14:43:31 UTC 2024: ## Kochi Corporation Division Boundaries Redrawn Ahead of Local Body Polls

**Kochi, November 19, 2024** – The Delimitation Commission has released a draft redrawing the boundaries of Kochi Corporation divisions, significantly altering their number and composition ahead of next year’s local body elections. The number of divisions has increased from 74 to 76, with the creation of four new divisions (Edappally Changampuzha, Palluruthy East, Palluruthy, and Mundamveli East) and the elimination of two others (Earavely and Chambakkara) which have been incorporated into existing divisions.

The redrawing has resulted in a substantial reshuffling of division numbers and boundaries. While West Kochi gained two new divisions, the Vyttila zone lost one. The Island North division has experienced considerable growth in both population and geographical size, incorporating areas previously part of the Fort Kochi division. Population sizes in the newly delimited divisions range from 2,651 (Island South) to 9,119 (Kunnumpuram), with a target population between 6,500 and 9,000.

The public can submit complaints regarding the draft boundaries via registered post to the Delimitation Commission secretary or the district election officer by December 3rd. Any supporting documents should be included. The Commission will hold hearings for meaningful complaints and suggestions on a date and location to be announced later.
