**Salem, Tamil Nadu, November 19, 2024** – A Tamil Nadu school teacher, R. Seetharaman, has faced disciplinary action from the state’s education department for attending a felicitation event honoring former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami. Seetharaman, an English teacher at Ariyampatti Panchayat Union Middle School, participated in Sunday’s function organized by various farmer associations in Mecheri, Salem district. The event celebrated Palaniswami’s implementation of the 100-lake scheme.
The disciplinary action follows complaints alleging Seetharaman’s irregular attendance at school, involvement in AIADMK party activities, and neglecting his teaching duties. The Tharamangalam District Educational Officer (elementary education), A. Raju, stated in a letter to the Director of Elementary Education that Seetharaman, who also serves as president of a Cauvery Surplus Water Committee, spent school hours on personal calls and using a laptop, rather than teaching. An internal inquiry confirmed Seetharaman’s affiliation with a politically affiliated farmer association.
