**Srinagar, November 19, 2024** – Uttar Pradesh Police have apprehended Nazir Ahmad Wani, a key accused in the 1993 Deoband bomb blast, in Budgam district, Jammu and Kashmir. Wani, 51, who recently ran unsuccessfully for the Budgam assembly seat against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, was arrested Tuesday with the assistance of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Wani, who listed his profession as “business” in his election affidavit, had been out on bail since 1994 after his initial arrest in connection with the blast, which injured four people, including two Uttar Pradesh police officers. He allegedly violated his bail conditions and remained at large until his recent arrest. Further, Wani failed to disclose his involvement in the Deoband blast case in his election paperwork. He also faces separate charges of wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation filed in Budgam last year.
