**New Delhi, November 12, 2024** – India’s domestic air travel industry reached a new peak on Sunday, with 498,000 passengers taking to the skies. This figure is just 1,479 short of the 500,000 mark, a milestone expected to be broken soon. The surge is attributed to the festive season, including Diwali. This marks the third consecutive day of record-breaking passenger numbers. The previous record was set on October 14th, with 484,000 passengers.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, daily passenger numbers surpassed 400,000 for the first time on April 17th, 2022. A total of 3,137 flights operated on Sunday, with an average of 158 passengers per flight.
October 2024 saw a total of 13.8 million domestic air passengers, a 12.8% increase compared to October 2019 (12.2 million) before the pandemic. This signifies a strong recovery and continued growth in the Indian aviation sector.
