Tue Nov 19 02:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Former Minister Anil Deshmukh Attacked in Maharashtra; Political Tensions Rise

**Nagpur, Maharashtra –** Former Maharashtra Home Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Anil Deshmukh was seriously injured in a stone-pelting attack on Monday night, November 18th, while returning from a campaign event in Narkhed. The incident occurred near Bela Fatta, prompting widespread outrage and accusations of political motivations.

Deshmukh was rushed to Katol Rural Hospital after sustaining injuries to his head. While police have launched an investigation, senior government lawyer Ujjwal Nikam cautioned against premature speculation surrounding the attack’s perpetrators and motives. Nikam attributed the rising tensions to inflammatory speeches and the intensifying political climate ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections. He urged restraint from all political leaders.

NCP leaders, including Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule, strongly condemned the attack. Pawar highlighted the negative reactions Deshmukh and his son received in Katol, implying a possible link to the violence. Sule emphasized the deteriorating law and order situation under the BJP government and demanded a thorough investigation leading to the arrest of those responsible and their masterminds.

Sanjay Raut, another NCP leader, expressed suspicion regarding the involvement of opposition party workers. The attack has reignited debates on political violence and the role of inflammatory rhetoric in escalating tensions during election campaigns. The police investigation is underway to determine the motive and those responsible for the attack.
