**Chennai, November 17, 2024** – Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh held a review meeting in Chennai Sunday with Tamil Nadu stakeholders in the textiles, handloom, and handicraft sectors. Joining him was Tamil Nadu Industries Minister T R B Rajaa. The meeting focused on the effectiveness of central government schemes aimed at modernizing the handloom industry, including yarn subsidy programs and PM Mudra loans for artisans.

Minister Singh urged the state government to leverage the National Institute of Fashion Technology’s (NIFT) VisioNEXT facility for innovative design and trend forecasting. He stressed the need for collaborative efforts to improve the livelihoods of handloom and powerloom workers, and highlighted the importance of creating distinct brands for handloom and handicraft products to boost exports. He also conducted an inspection of the NIFT Chennai campus.

Minister Rajaa, in a social media post, reported positive feedback on the PM Mitra Park in Virudhunagar and updated the Union Minister on its progress. He further requested the establishment of SIPCOT Mini Textile Parks across Tamil Nadu to address the skilled labor demand within the state.
