**New Delhi:** The Supreme Court of India has sharply criticized the Delhi Police for their inadequate enforcement of the city’s firecracker ban. The court noted that despite issuing orders prohibiting the sale and use of firecrackers to curb air pollution, the Delhi Police failed to effectively implement the ban.

The apex court directed the Delhi Police Commissioner to immediately and strictly enforce the ban, ensuring that no unauthorized sale or manufacture of firecrackers takes place. The court emphasized the Delhi Police’s responsibility to ensure compliance with its earlier orders and take action against violators.

The ban, initially implemented by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to combat Delhi’s air pollution problem, required the Supreme Court’s intervention to direct the Delhi Police, under central government control, to enforce it. The court’s latest order follows concerns that the previous directives were not sufficiently acted upon.
