**UDUPI, INDIA (November 17, 2024)** – The Udupi Courts and Bar Association celebrated its 125th anniversary this weekend with a call for faster justice. Speaking at the inauguration, Supreme Court Justice Arvind Kumar emphasized the need to utilize arbitration, conciliation, and Lok Adalats to expedite the resolution of minor cases. He also advocated for greater use of technology in judicial proceedings to improve transparency, save time, and reduce costs for litigants.
Andhra Pradesh Governor and former Supreme Court Justice S. Abdul Nazeer highlighted the overwhelming caseload facing the judiciary, suggesting collaborative efforts between judges, advocates, and lawmakers to address the backlog. He noted the significant delays in case settlement due to the sheer volume of cases filed daily.
Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, Justice N. V. Anjaria, stressed the importance of providing adequate infrastructure for new courts. Karnataka’s Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs, and Tourism, H.K. Patil, lauded the judiciary’s role in dispensing justice and the public’s high level of trust in its work.
The event, which included the release of a commemorative souvenir, was attended by several Karnataka High Court judges, the Advocate General, and other dignitaries. The two-day celebration underscored the ongoing need for judicial reform and efficient case management in India.
