TIRUPATI, November 18, 2024 – Nara Ramamurthy Naidu, former MLA of Chandragiri and younger brother of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, passed away on November 16, 2024. A significant figure in Chittoor district’s political landscape, Naidu’s death drew tributes from across the political spectrum.
Naidu’s political career began with a resounding victory in the 1994 elections as a TDP legislator, defeating Congress candidate Galla Aruna Kumari by a significant margin. However, he lost a close contest to the same opponent in 1999. Subsequent career choices, including a rebellious candidacy in 2004 and a later switch to the Congress party, ultimately led to his fading from the political limelight.
Despite his later political obscurity, Naidu’s passing prompted an outpouring of grief. High-profile figures, including Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan and Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, offered condolences. Governor Dattatreya, recalling a shared political history, described Naidu as a “tough fighter” dedicated to the TDP. Many local constituents also paid their respects, highlighting Naidu’s personal connections within the community.
Naidu’s son, Nara Rohith, shared an emotional tribute on X, remembering his father’s fighting spirit and influence on his life. The funeral was attended by a large number of people, underscoring the impact Naidu had, even in the later years of his life.
