**Abuja, Nigeria –** Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), Nigeria’s second-highest national honour, during a state visit on Sunday. He is only the second foreign recipient of the award, following Queen Elizabeth II in 1969.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presented the award to PM Modi, who dedicated it to the people of India and celebrated the strong India-Nigeria relationship. He emphasized the shared values of democracy and economic dynamism between the two nations, highlighting their ongoing collaboration for mutual benefit.

This latest accolade adds to PM Modi’s growing list of international recognitions, bringing the total number of countries to honour him to 17. The visit, at the invitation of President Tinubu, is part of a three-nation tour also encompassing Brazil and Guyana. Upon arrival in Abuja, PM Modi was presented with the ‘Key to the City’, a symbolic gesture reflecting the warm welcome he received. The visit is expected to further strengthen strategic ties between India and Nigeria.
