GAFFNEY, SC – Food giant Nestlé is investing $150 million to expand its frozen food production facility in Cherokee County, South Carolina. The expansion will add a new production line dedicated to single-serve frozen meals and incorporate enhanced automation and digital technology to boost efficiency.
The investment underscores Nestlé’s commitment to the Gaffney community, where it has operated for nearly 45 years, and its broader strategy to strengthen its US manufacturing capabilities. The upgrade comes as Nestlé aims to meet rising consumer demand for its frozen meal brands, recently launching new lines featuring Asian and Mexican cuisines, as well as meals designed to complement GLP-1 weight-loss medication.
While Nestlé reported market share gains in the North American frozen food market, overall US growth in this sector remained relatively flat in 2023. This investment reflects Nestlé’s continued efforts to navigate a softening consumer demand environment, as the company recently lowered its full-year organic sales growth forecast for 2024 to around 2%. The new production line is expected to significantly contribute to meeting this demand.
