**Chennai, India** – A long-simmering feud between South Indian superstars Nayanthara and Dhanush has exploded into public view. The conflict, stemming from the 2015 film *Naanum Rowdy Dhaan*, which Dhanush produced and Nayanthara starred in, centers on finances and the use of footage in Nayanthara’s recent Netflix documentary.
According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, tensions arose during *Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’s* production when the budget overran. Nayanthara reportedly covered cost overruns herself to support director Vignesh Shivan, her now-husband.
The current dispute erupted when Nayanthara sought permission to use footage from *Naanum Rowdy Dhaan*, including romantic scenes, in her wedding documentary. Dhanush refused, leading to the documentary shifting focus away from the wedding. Nayanthara subsequently used a three-second clip without permission, resulting in a ₹10 crore (approximately $1.2 million USD) legal notice from Dhanush.
This prompted Nayanthara to release an open letter accusing Dhanush of acting out of personal vengeance. Bala suggests that the conflict extends beyond finances, citing alleged taunts from Nayanthara towards Dhanush at an awards ceremony following the film’s release.
