**Kalaburagi, November 17, 2024** – Upa Lokayukta Justice B. Veerappa stressed the crucial role of the media and judiciary in combating corruption during a seminar in Kalaburagi on Sunday. Addressing judicial officials, he emphasized the need for both the media and judiciary to act honestly and fearlessly to expose and eliminate corruption at all levels.
Justice Veerappa highlighted the media’s position as the “fourth estate,” asserting its role in strengthening democracy and acting as an interface between citizens and the government. He noted that corruption extends far beyond bribery, influencing various sectors of state administration, including the judiciary itself. While acknowledging that neither the media nor the judiciary are immune to corruption, he underscored the media’s vital role as a watchdog, urging responsible use of its power to monitor all institutions.
The seminar, jointly organized by the Karnataka Lokayukta and the Kalaburagi District Legal Services Authority, focused on the role of the Lokayukta and Legal Service Authority in public administration. Justice Veerappa instructed Lokayukta officials to conduct regular inspections of government offices, hospitals, schools, and hostels to ensure ethical and moral conduct by authorities. He concluded by reiterating the shared responsibility of the judiciary and media in holding the executive and legislative branches accountable.
