**Imphal, Manipur:** Violence continues to grip Manipur as clashes between security forces and protesters in the volatile Jiribam district resulted in the death of one protester. Police reported that several politicians’ homes and party offices were attacked Sunday night, leading to widespread unrest. A 21-year-old man, identified as Athouba, died in the ensuing violence. While police haven’t confirmed who fired the fatal shot, protesters allege that special police commandos opened fire to disperse the crowd, injuring two others besides Athouba.
The unrest stems from ongoing protests over the killing of women and children allegedly perpetrated by Kuki militants. In response to the escalating violence, the Manipur government has announced a two-day closure of schools and colleges, shutting down all government educational institutions including universities and colleges in Imphal West and East districts until Tuesday.
