**Hyderabad, Telangana –** Konatham Dileep, a key member of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and close aide to working president KT Rama Rao, was arrested by Telangana police today for allegedly spreading misinformation on social media. The arrest has escalated the already tense political climate between the BRS and the ruling Congress party.
Dileep, who previously served as Telangana’s digital media director, was taken into custody after appearing at the cybercrime cell in relation to a September case. Police allege he reposted a video concerning a communal clash in Jainoor, claiming it incited further tension. While initially questioned for 12 hours in September and released, he was arrested today and is scheduled to appear before a judicial magistrate.
The arrest comes just hours before KT Rama Rao’s planned press conference in Delhi, where he is expected to criticize the Congress government’s land acquisition policies. BRS spokesperson Krishank described the arrest as sudden and politically motivated.
The BRS has accused the Congress of targeting Dileep for his criticism of the Chief Minister and the party. A recent social media post by Dileep, featuring a picture of himself with the caption “Those who are ready to walk a risky path are not afraid of death,” has been interpreted as a defiant message.
Former Telangana minister Harish Rao condemned the arrest as “vendetta politics,” while other BRS members and supporters have voiced their outrage online, using the hashtag #CongressFailedTelangana. The situation is expected to further intensify the political rivalry in the state.
