**JHANSI, UTTAR PRADESH** – A devastating fire at a Jhansi hospital claimed the lives of 10 newborn babies, prompting outrage and accusations of government negligence. Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad slammed the Uttar Pradesh state government, citing “incompetence” as the cause of the tragedy. Prasad expressed grief over the “sad and heart-rending” loss of life and criticized the government’s handling of the incident and its focus on divisive politics.

In response to the tragedy, a four-member committee has been formed to investigate the cause of the fire. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced financial assistance of ₹1 lakh to each affected family. The investigation is underway.
