**Chennai, India** – Tamil actor and politician Vijay’s fledgling political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has definitively ruled out any alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the TVK dismissed reports of a potential coalition as “completely false and without evidence.” The party declared its intention to contest the election independently, aiming for a majority win based on its own policies. TVK General Secretary Anand urged the public to disregard such rumors, attributing them to “false opinions expressed spontaneously” by some political commentators.
Speculation of an AIADMK-TVK alliance arose after Vijay, during his party’s launch, identified the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) as his primary political opponent and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as his main ideological opponent. The AIADMK’s relatively muted response to TVK’s formation fueled these rumors, with reports suggesting a potential deal involving 60 of the state’s 234 assembly seats for Vijay’s party.
Vijay recently held a large rally where he criticized both the DMK and BJP, attacking the former over alcohol sales and the latter over the “One Nation, One Election” proposal. This led to a subsequent rebuke from DMK Chief Minister MK Stalin, who accused new parties of attempting to eliminate his party, without explicitly naming Vijay or TVK. Meanwhile, the Congress party, currently allied with the DMK, confirmed its continued alliance with no plans for change. The TVK’s stance solidifies a multi-party contest for the 2026 elections in Tamil Nadu.
