Mon Nov 18 06:36:36 UTC 2024: ## Senior AAP Leader Quits, Sparking Accusations of Corruption and Political Maneuvering

**New Delhi** – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is facing a major blow with the resignation of senior leader and Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot, triggering a war of words between the BJP and AAP. Gahlot, in his resignation letter, cited concerns over the party’s direction, accusing it of prioritizing political ambitions over public service and failing to deliver on key promises like cleaning the Yamuna River. He also alluded to internal challenges and controversies, questioning whether the AAP still represents the common man.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla seized on the resignation, alleging that the AAP has transitioned from fighting corruption to engaging in it, referencing Gahlot’s departure as evidence of a shift from Anna Hazare’s ideals to a style of politics reminiscent of Lalu Prasad Yadav. Poonawalla claimed Gahlot’s resignation highlights a pattern of disillusioned founding members and senior leaders leaving the party.

However, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh countered these claims, attributing Gahlot’s resignation to alleged pressure from the BJP. Singh stated that the BJP had leveled accusations of corruption against Gahlot, involving ₹112 crore, and that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted multiple raids on his residence. He characterized Gahlot’s resignation as a result of BJP’s “dirty politics and conspiracy”.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi accepted Gahlot’s resignation, which comes ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. The resignation and subsequent accusations have intensified the political climate in Delhi, raising questions about the AAP’s future and its ability to retain public trust.
