Mon Nov 18 08:36:04 UTC 2024: ## AAP Accused of Corruption, Senior Leader Quits Amidst Allegations

**New Delhi:** The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is facing fresh accusations of corruption, with BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla alleging a shift from fighting corruption to engaging in it. Poonawalla’s comments follow the resignation of senior AAP leader and Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot, who cited concerns over the party’s direction and internal challenges in his resignation letter.

Gahlot’s letter criticized the party’s alleged prioritization of political ambitions over serving the people, pointing to the unfulfilled promise of cleaning the Yamuna River and controversies like the “Sheeshmahal” issue as evidence of this shift. He stated that the party’s focus has moved away from its core principles.

Poonawalla claimed Gahlot’s resignation further exemplifies AAP’s transformation from a party focused on fighting corruption under Anna Hazare’s influence to one now prioritizing political maneuvering. He characterized this as a shift from “Swaraj” (self-rule) to “Sharab” (liquor), referencing alleged scandals.

However, AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh countered these allegations, attributing Gahlot’s resignation to alleged BJP pressure, including ED raids and accusations of financial irregularities totaling Rs 112 crore. Singh described the resignation as a part of a BJP conspiracy.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi accepted Gahlot’s resignation, which comes ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. The accusations and resignation have ignited a political firestorm, with both parties trading blame and accusations just months before crucial elections.
