**New Delhi, November 18, 2024** – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) received a boost today with the joining of former Congress MLA Sumesh Shokeen. The announcement was made by AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Shokeen, a former MLA from Matiala constituency in rural Delhi, joins the party amidst recent defections, most notably the move of Jat leader Kailash Gahlot to the BJP.
Kejriwal welcomed Shokeen, highlighting the significance of this addition to the party’s efforts in Delhi’s rural areas. He emphasized the AAP government’s development work in previously neglected areas like Delhi-Dehat, citing improvements in connectivity, the establishment of schools, hospitals, mohalla clinics, and stadiums. He stated that these initiatives have brought the outer regions of Delhi on par with the rest of the city.
Shokeen himself praised the AAP government’s decade-long focus on infrastructure and development in the Delhi-Dehat region. His addition to the AAP is expected to strengthen the party’s base in these areas ahead of future elections.
