**MUMBAI, INDIA** – Despite his lineage as the son of renowned Bollywood director Rakesh Roshan, Hrithik Roshan’s journey to stardom wasn’t paved with privilege. In a recent interview with News18, Rakesh Roshan revealed that he ensured his son earned his place in the industry through rigorous experience.
Before launching his acting career with the blockbuster “Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai,” Hrithik served a four-to-five-year apprenticeship as an assistant director on his father’s films, including “Karan Arjun,” which is being re-released on November 22nd. Rakesh Roshan recounted how Hrithik, instead of pursuing further studies abroad, opted to work alongside him, experiencing the realities of filmmaking firsthand. This included traveling with the film crew, sharing cramped accommodations, and foregoing the luxuries his father enjoyed.
“He thought it would be a very rosy walk with me, but it was not,” Rakesh Roshan said. “He used to come by bus, he never travelled with me on a flight for outdoor shooting. He travelled with the unit, stayed with the unit.” This, the director emphasized, was crucial for understanding the behind-the-scenes workings of filmmaking.
Hrithik himself recently shared a nostalgic Instagram post about his involvement in “Karan Arjun,” describing the moment his father conceived the film’s idea and the impact it had on him.
Rakesh Roshan’s commitment to ensuring Hrithik earned his place, despite the “nepo baby” label often associated with him, paints a picture of a demanding yet ultimately formative experience that shaped the actor’s dedication and work ethic. The father-son collaboration extended beyond “Karan Arjun,” encompassing films such as “Khudgarz,” “King Uncle,” “Khel,” and “Koyla.”
