**Mexico City, Mexico –** Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark made history on Saturday night, becoming the first woman from her country to win the Miss Universe crown. The 73rd edition of the prestigious pageant, held at the Mexico City Arena, saw over 120 contestants compete for the title.
Theilvig, an animal protection advocate and diamond seller, was crowned by outgoing Miss Universe Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua. Miss Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, secured second place, and Miss Mexico, Maria Fernanda Beltran, took third. India’s Rhea Singha made it into the top 30.
The spectacular event featured performances by mariachi musicians and Black Eyed Peas member Taboo, who sang “Mexicana,” a song composed by Emilio Estefan specifically for the competition. The pageant was hosted by Mario Lopez, Olivia Culpo (Miss Universe 2012), Zuri Hall, and Catriona Gray (Miss Universe 2018).
This year’s competition marked the first time several countries, including Belarus, Eritrea, Guinea, Macau, Maldives, Moldova, and Uzbekistan, participated in Miss Universe.
