Mon Nov 18 15:14:11 UTC 2024: ## Congress Leader Demands Immediate Construction of Dugarajapatnam Port

**TIRUPATI, Andhra Pradesh (November 18, 2024):** Senior Congress leader Chinta Mohan has urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to immediately begin construction of the long-delayed Dugarajapatnam port. Mohan warned that failure to do so would lead to widespread unrest among unemployed youth and farmers in the south coastal region.

Addressing a press conference following protests in Kota village near Gudur, Mohan accused Naidu of abandoning the project since the Telugu Desam Party’s 2014 election victory. He argued the port is not just an infrastructure project, but a fundamental right for residents from Tirupati to Nellore, citing its sanctioning in the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act. He compared its importance to the Polavaram project.

Mohan highlighted the port’s potential to create lakhs of jobs and boost the economy for over one lakh farmers. He staged similar protests in Sullurupeta, Naidupeta, and Gudur to emphasize his demands. The former Union Minister also criticized Naidu’s claims regarding Amaravati’s development, urging the state government to prioritize the Dugarajapatnam port over what he called “daydreaming” about the capital city.
