**MANGALURU, KARNATAKA –** Three young women, all final-year engineering students from Mysuru, tragically drowned in the swimming pool of a beach resort in Mangaluru on Sunday. The victims, identified as Nishita MD (21), Parvathi S (20), and Keerthana N (21), were vacationing at the Vazco beach resort when the incident occurred.
CCTV footage shows the three friends, none of whom could swim, entering the pool. One student ventured into the deeper end and struggled, prompting her friends to attempt a rescue. However, all three became submerged and eventually succumbed. The footage reveals the absence of a lifeguard and any clear indication of the pool’s depth.
Police have confirmed that the deaths were accidental drownings and have arrested the resort manager. Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal stated that the resort’s security lapses contributed to the tragedy, promising strict action against those responsible. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered, and the investigation is underway. The incident highlights serious concerns regarding safety protocols at the resort.
