Sun Nov 17 18:57:19 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Schools Closed Due to Severe Air Pollution

**New Delhi, November 15, 2024** – Delhi’s worsening air quality has forced the government to close all primary schools, shifting to online classes until further notice. The move comes as the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) reached a severe 428 on Thursday, triggering Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the closure on social media, citing concerns for students’ health. The AQI has been consistently above 400, indicating hazardous air conditions. Stage III of GRAP mandates several restrictions, including the halting of construction activities, non-essential mining, and the ban of non-electric, non-CNG, and non-BS-VI diesel inter-state buses.

While the closure impacts primary schools (up to grade 5), other schools may decide independently whether to follow suit. The online classes will remain in effect until air quality improves. The situation highlights the recurring challenge Delhi faces with severe air pollution during the winter months.
