Sun Nov 17 09:14:46 UTC 2024: ## Sydney Thunder’s Voll Blasts Career-High Score, Propelling Team to Top of WBBL Table

**Melbourne, Australia –** Georgia Voll smashed a career-high 97 not out, leading the Sydney Thunder to a resounding seven-wicket victory over the Perth Scorchers in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). The impressive knock, the second-highest score by an uncapped international player in WBBL history, came after a chaotic day for the Thunder.

Travel delays and Melbourne traffic resulted in a 90-minute delay to the team’s training session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) – Voll’s first time playing at the iconic venue. Despite the disrupted preparations, Voll seized the opportunity, spending an extended time in the nets before the match.

“I stole the net for about 45 minutes to an hour,” Voll admitted. “I just thought I needed a bit of a longer hit…to clear my head.” The extra practice clearly paid off.

Voll’s performance was all the more remarkable given her move from the Brisbane Heat during the off-season. Seeking more batting opportunities after being relegated to No. 9 last summer, Voll has thrived in her new role opening the batting for the Thunder alongside Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu. She also credits learning from England captain Heather Knight, with whom she shared a crucial 64-run partnership during Friday’s match.

“The opportunity was pretty clear to open the batting, and I jumped at that,” Voll stated. “That’s what I’ve been wanting.”

The win propelled the Thunder to the top of the WBBL table, two points clear of their rivals. Their next match is a crucial Sydney derby against the Sixers on Sunday, a game Voll believes is vital for securing a finals berth. “To get back on the right track heading into the last three games has really helped us,” she said.
