Sun Nov 17 08:20:27 UTC 2024: ## Karnataka to Offer 500 More PG Medical Seats, Fees Increased
**Bengaluru, November 17, 2024** – The counselling process for postgraduate (PG) medical courses in Karnataka will begin on Monday, November 18, with an increase of 500 seats, bringing the total to 6,310. This includes 2,428 All India Quota seats, 1,822 State quota seats, 1,266 private quota seats, and 794 other quota seats.
The increase follows an order from the National Medical Commission (NMC) in response to requests from several medical colleges. The state government also approved a 10% fee hike for PG medical seats in private colleges, mirroring a similar increase implemented earlier this year for undergraduate seats. This means fees for government quota seats in private colleges will rise from ₹6,98,280 to ₹7,68,108, while private quota seat fees will increase from ₹12,48,176 to ₹13,72,997.
Dr. B. L. Sujatha Rathod, Director of the Directorate of Medical Education, attributed the additional seats to the NMC order and stated that the fee increase was a consensual agreement with private colleges. The Karnataka High Court has also granted temporary relief to 335 doctors from mandatory government service, impacting the counselling process.
