**Abuja, Nigeria – November 17, 2024** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Abuja today for the first leg of a five-day, three-nation tour, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in 17 years. Upon his arrival, he was greeted with a warm welcome, receiving the “Key to the City” of Abuja from Minister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike. More significantly, Nigeria will bestow upon PM Modi its second-highest national award, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON). This prestigious honour, previously awarded only to Queen Elizabeth II in 1969 among foreign dignitaries, makes PM Modi only the second to receive this distinction. This adds to his already impressive collection of 17 international awards. PM Modi’s visit, at the invitation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will continue to Brazil and Guyana.
