Sun Nov 17 09:56:35 UTC 2024: ## Congress Blasts Modi Government Over Renewed Manipur Violence
**New Delhi, November 17, 2024:** The Congress party has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP government, accusing them of deliberately allowing the ongoing violence in Manipur to continue. At least 17 people have died since November 7th, with violence spreading to new districts and even spilling over into neighboring Northeastern states.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, in a statement on X, described the situation in Manipur since May 2023 as “unimaginable pain, division, and simmering violence,” destroying the future of its people. He alleged that the BJP’s actions indicate a deliberate attempt to keep Manipur in turmoil to further its divisive political agenda.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, echoed these concerns, calling the recent clashes “deeply disturbing” and urging Prime Minister Modi to visit Manipur and work towards restoring peace. He noted that despite over a year of conflict, the central and state governments have failed to bring about reconciliation.
Congress General Secretary K.C. Vengopal highlighted the precarious situation, pointing to a mob attack on a BJP MLA as evidence that even ruling party members are not safe. He criticized the Prime Minister and Home Minister for prioritizing political campaigning and foreign visits over addressing the crisis in Manipur. He called for urgent central intervention to restore peace.
The Congress used the BJP’s own campaign slogan, “Ek Hai Toh Safe Hai” (Safety in Unity), to counter the situation with their own slogan “Na Manipur Ek Hai, Na Manipur Safe Hain” (Neither is Manipur united nor is it safe). The party’s criticism highlights the deepening political divide amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Manipur.
